In early 2024, a lifelong dream got underway to becoming a licensed NYS wildlife rehabilitator. We trained for 5 weeks with AWARE Wildlife Rehab and prepared to take the exam in April. In April the exam was taken, passed, paperwork sent to Albany and a few weeks later an interview was conducted by my local DEC region 7 office and I was official a level 1 rehabilitator. Next step was where to gain practical experience and knowledge? First steps were made volunteering with AWARE in their outreach and educational community events but "hands on" was going to come elsewhere.
